The Story

Severance moves back and forth in time and space to unveil Kristy-Ann's difficult battle with cancer. The story begins at the most devastating point in her journey - when she discovers that her cancer has spread and is inoperable. As the story continues to jump between her happier moments as well as at some of her more degrading moments, Kristy-Ann addresses the concept of time and what it means to most people, versus what it means to her.

The driving force that permeates every element of the story is the tragedy of time: that we as humans do not have time; time has us. We need to make the most of the time that we have through the the quality of our attitude; our attitude towards ourselves, and towards things beyond our control. As Kristy-Ann's time lessens and her body continues to fail her, her mind never falters. It is in her mind that she is most alive and can roam wherever she pleases. In a way Kristy-Ann's mind evades the tragedy of time, for time has presenter her in a way that she does not see herself, so she argues it. She fuels herself by her inner most thoughts and her deep connections with her loved ones, which gives her the energy to control the way she perceives herself and her fate.
